Point Mallard Park

One of the highlights of Decatur’s recreation facilities is Point Mallard Park.  Point Mallard is a short drive from anywhere in the Decatur’s city limits. There are a number of other recreational activities and facilities available for your enjoyment. A large, covered pavilion is available with restrooms is for groups of up to 500.

The large open-air facility is perfect for rallies, seminars, craft exhibitions and church organization activities. Contact group sales coordinator for rental fees and availability.

If you buy a home in Point Mallard Estates you are just a short drive or walk to the Point Mallard 3-mile hiking/biking trail, three lighted baseball fields, a group pavilion, sand volleyball, picnic grounds, a prayer chapel near our campground and fishing along the Tennessee River! They sponsor several festivals such as the Balloon Festival, Civil War Reenactment, and much more.

Park Amenities

The Strike Zone: A batting cage and driving range is located near the Bill Dukes complex.

  • Driving Range has target greens, putting green and enclosed shelter. You can rent clubs, and E-Keys are available for non-operating hours.
  • The Batting Cages feature Baseball and softball pitching machines. Speeds range from 40 to 70 mph for baseball, and slow speed and fast pitch for softball. The cages are available for rent by the hour.

T.C. Almon Center

The “T.C. Almon Center”, is located within Point Mallard Park, is operated by the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department. The recreation center is open daily. It has basketball courts, weight room, game room, meeting rooms, craft room, kitchen, shower/locker facilities, a racquetball court, and a vending machine area.  The “Jimmy Johns Tennis Center” is located behind T.C. Almon Center. So much to do in Decatur when buying a home just take your pick.

After moving to Decatur and buying your new home and if you enjoy tennis grab your racket and come visit the “Jimmy Johns Tennis Center”, in Point Mallard Park. It is owned and operated by Decatur Parks and Recreation Department. It features 16 championship hard courts, 4 championship clay courts, and two indoor hard courts. There is a pro shop and men’s and women’s rest rooms. All the courts are lighted. There is a backboard located next to the indoor courts.

Bill J. Dukes Athletic Complex
the “Bill J. Dukes Athletic Complex”, is located within Point Mallard Park. The 40-acre complex is composed of three lighted, fenced baseball fields (2-200 ft., 1-275 ft.), press boxes over dugouts, and a concession/restroom building.

Battle for Decatur – Civil War Reenactment
Relive the four day struggle between advancing Garrisoned Union Troops and Confederates at the Point Mallard Park hosted Battle for Decatur. The Reenactment held every Labor Day Weekend at Point Mallard Park features Civil War Camps, Live Battles and crafts.  Enjoy this reenactment every Labor Day Weekend.

Prayer Chapel

If you buy a home in Point Mallard Estates you are walking distance from the Point Mallard Chapel. The Chapel is a charming, open air chapel perfect for small weddings and family gatherings. The Chapel seats approximately 80 people and is lighted.

Ronald Reagan Spirit of America Fields

The Spirit of America fields are located within Point Mallard Park. The facility is named for President Ronald Reagan. He spoke at the Spirit of America Festival in 1984. The ten-acres are lighted fields with a permanent outdoor stage at the east end.

Point Mallard Water Park

When buying a home in Decatur you can enjoy one of the best water parks in the state.  The Point Mallard Waterpark is home of America’s First Wave Pool. Named for the late J. Gilmer Blackburn. It opened in August of 1970 after years of commitment to build an attraction for all ages in North Alabama. The park features America’s First Wave Pool, Pro Bowl Slide, Towering Sky Pond and Speed Slide, Three Flume Tube Rides, Olympic Pool, Sandy Beach with complimentary beach loungers, Kids area featuring the Squirt Factory & Duck Pond, Concessions & Gift Shop, and Scenic Lagoon. The park offers exclusive group parties after hours and birthday parties during regular business hours.

Point Mallard Gold Course

If golf is your passion after you buy a home in Decatur, Alabama enjoy the Point Mallard golf course. Located by the Tennessee river with 200 acers of wooded flatlands.  The course is open year round and is one of the finest golfing experiences.

Point Mallard Ice Rink

After buying your home in Decatur you can enjoy Ice Skating.  The Point Mallard open air Ice Rink was opened in 1973 and the new Indoor Rink was opened in 2001. Complete with shower facilities, party rooms, meeting rooms, full concessions, pro-shop and wireless sound system, the rink offers fun for all ages. Public skate sessions and monthly home-school sessions are just a few regular features of the facility. The pro, Charles Bernhard, offers lessons and the rink is the home of the Wind, Rain or Shine Figure Skating Competition and other events.

Bill Sims Bike Trail

This scenic walking / Bike Trail runs along the Tennessee River at Point Mallard Park.  It runs from the wave pool and goes around the golf course. There is a paved alternate route. Joggers, walkers, bikes and leashed pets are welcome. The trail connects with the larger bike route that runs through Decatur.

Point Mallard Strike Zone

The Point Mallard Strike Zone batting cages and driving range is fun for all ages.

Eagle Amphitheatre

The Eagle Amphitheatre was designed and built by local Boy Scouts earning their Eagle Scout badge. It seats approximately 75. The beautiful Tennessee River and lovely flora creates a attractive backdrop for any outdoor event at this location just South of the Point Mallard Ice Skating Complex.

Point Mallard Park Pavilions

Point Mallard Park has three pavilions available for rent in the main park area, and two pavilions for rent inside the waterpark during summer months.
